January Surf- Feels More Like April

This most recent warm up (2nd January thaw) took our thin snowpack away, but left us a nice 3 foot groundswell with 60 degree air (43 degree water) and a light offshore breeze. How could we not hit it?

Scituate MA Run of The Mill Nor’Easter Jan 12 2011

I was also temped to Jump in the Ocean, but the 10 foot waves whipped by 45 mph winds stopped me just short, as seen here in a Go Pro Video from our First New England Nor’easter of 2012. I had no problem with 40 degree water and air, wearing 6.5 mm wet suit

Scituate Snowfall Leads to New Storm Track

This is the second tenth of an inch of snow this winter in Scituate Massachusetts, but marks the first sign of Greenland Blocking for Winter 2011/2012. Great News for New England Ski Resorts. Oh yeah, surf will be back too, overhead Thursday and Friday.

like Christmas Day, The mountains of Vermont have a good chance for a net gain of snow Wednesday/Thursday but much of the region likely sees more rain than snow, at least until Friday

Ski Report from Stowe using Go Pro

We picked the best time and place for a New Year’s Ski Vacation. It snowed six of seven days at Stowe Mountain Resort in Vermont the first week of 2012. This is also the first time I filmed using a Go Pro Hero cam on a chest mount.

We have to hand it to the snow making crews in New England. Taking advantage of brief but intense bursts of Canadian Cold, mountain operations has made skiing possible despite another record warm and snow free month of December.
